Aktualnie jedno z najgorętszych nazwisk w przemyśle muzycznym. O kim mowa? O The Weeknd! Zaczynał od nagrywania piosenek na YouTubie, teraz walczy z Justinem Bieberem o najważniejsze nagrody. Przez niektórych nazywany następcą Michaela Jacksona i myślę, że coś w tym jest. Na pewno słyszeliście Can't Feel My Face, czy The Hills z poprzednich lat. Teraz nadeszła nowa era! W zeszłym roku zaskoczył wszystkich swoim nowym krążkiem Starboy. Dzisiaj zapraszam Was na recenzję tego świetnego albumu.

He's one of the hottest topics in music industry right now. Who are we talking about? Obviously, it's The Weeknd. He started with uploading his demo songs on YouTube and now he's the rival of Justin Bieber for the most precious awards. Many claim that he is the next Michael Jackson and I need to admit that he could be the spitting image of the King. I'm sure you've heard Can't Feel My Face or The Hills in 2015. But now's the new era - the Starboy era. He suprised everyone with the new album last year. Let's start with the review of this amazing piece of music.

Starboy / Party Monster
Początek albumu ze świetnymi propozycjami. Starboy jest na pewno przełomową piosenką w jego karierze. Na rynku brakuje hip-hopowych pozycji, nic dziwnego, ze przez kilka tygodni utrzymywał się na szczycie list przebojów z całego świata (również w Polsce). Party Monster - trzeci singiel z płyty. Nie odstępuje od tytułowego utworu, a nawet świeci mocniej. The Weeknd wspomniał nawet o Selenie Gomez, z którą obecnie się spotyka: "Angelina, lips like Angelina. Like Selena, ass-shaped like Selena". 

The beggining of the album with some great tunes. Starboy is for sure a groundbreaking song in The Weekn's discography. In the music industry there are only few hip-hop sounds, so no wonder why he had stayed at the top of the global charts (in Poland as well) for a long time. Party Monster - third single from the album. It shines even brighter than the titular one. The Weeknd mentioned his girlfriend Selena Gomez here: "Angelina, lips like Angelina. Like Selena, ass-shaped like Selena"


                              


False Alarm / Rockin'
Moje ulubiony duet z płyty. Cieszę się, ze The Weeknd powrócił do korzeni swojego poprzedniego albumu - "Beauty Behind The Madness". Idealnie wybrany drugi singiel - False Alarm, gdyby tylko został wydany trochę później namieszałby bardziej w świecie muzyki. Rockin' to bez wątpienia najlepszy utwór z płyty (i #20 miejsce w moim Top 80 2016 roku). Czekam na oficjalny teledysk! Połączenie hip-hopu z elektroniczną muzyką i popem nadaje mu typowo radiowe brzmienie, ale też dźwięk, którego długo nie zapomnicie. 

My favourite ones. I'm really happy tha The Weeknd came back into the roots of his last album - "Beauty Behind The Madness". The second single was chosen wisely - False Alarm would have charted higher if it had been released later. Undoubtedly Rockin' is the best song from Starboy (#20 spot in my Top 80 of 2016). I'm waiting for the music video of this one so badly. Mixing hip-hop with some EDM and pop music is making this song a radio hit and caters the listeners to have a great entertainment for an eternity.

Secrets / True Colors
To tutaj jest jeden z tych momentów, gdzie możemy porównać The Weeknd do Michaela Jacksona. Secrets to kolejna popowa odsłona wokalisty, a razem z wchodzącym po nim True Colors nadaje albumowi spokojniejszy ton.

Now's the time when you can compare The Weeknd's voice to the Jackson's one. Secrets is another pop vision of young singer. And with the upcoming True Colors they give the album a calm pitch.

Stargirl Interlude / Sidewalks
Kolaboracja z Laną Del Rey jest niesamowitym utworem. Bardzo żałuję, że trwa niecałe dwie minuty. Duet z Laną na płytach The Weeknd stanie się już chyba tradycją, bo za każdym razem wychodzi im to znakomicie. Sidewalks z Kendrickiem Lamarem jest charakterystycznym przykładem hip hopu połączonego z indie rockiem. Bardzo dobre granie. Pauzy w wersach rapera są genialnymi wstawkami.

The collaboration with Lana Del Rey is an amazing song. I do regret that it's length is barely two minutes. Duet with Lana on The Weeknd's longplays should be a custom, because everytime they do something together it is magic. Sidewalks featuring Kendrick Lamar is a representative example of hip-hop mixed with indie pop. So good! The pauses in the rapper's verses are unique. 
Six Feets Under / Love To Lay / A Lonely Night / Attention
Na tej płycie nie znajdziecie żadnej złej piosenki! A to kolejne na to dowody. Przez R'n'B po hip-hop.
Podane piosenki są jednymi z tych, których możecie słuchać podczas każdej sytuacji - ciepłego letniego dnia, albo zimowego wieczora. Love To Lay jest jedną z perełek tego albumu, a przy A Lonely Night można usłyszeć inspirację muzyką Justina Timberlake'a.

There are no bad song here! Here's the other proof for that. Coming through R'n'B to the hip-hop. Given songs are the ones, which you can listen to on a summer hot day or on a winter evening. Love To Lay is one of the gems on the album. You can hear the similarity to the Justin Timberlake's music in A Lonely Night.

 Nothing Without You / Die For You / Feel It Coming
Końcówka płyta składa się w zasadzie z samych miłosnych piosenek. Nothing Without You i Die For You to bardzo popowo-hiphopowe granie. Liryka słów The Weeknda tworzy naprawdę dobre teksty: "It ain't workin' 'cause you're perfect / And I know that you're worth it". Feel It Coming to czwarty singiel z płyty. Słuchacze z z całego świata uważają, że The Weeknd bardzo wzorował się na muzyce Jacksona. Faktycznie słychać duże podobieństwo, ale czy to źle? Według mnie The Weeknd podołał temu zadaniu i zasługuje na miano następcy Króla Popu. 

The ending basically consist of some love songs. Nothing But You and Die For You are truly pop and hip-hop anthems. Lyrical The Weeknd is making great expressions: "It ain't workin' 'cause you're perfect / And I know that you're worth it". Feel It Coming is the fourth single from the Starboy. It is said to be really derivative to Michael Jackson's music. It is similar for sure, but is it bad? To my mind, The Weeknd managed to do so and he deserve to be called the descendant of the King of Pop.

                             

Fenomenem tej płyty jest to, że nie ma wersji deluxe. A jak to zwykle bywa ostatnie propozycje na "długich albumach" są po prostu nudne. Natomiast The Weeknd zaskakuje do samego końca! Każdy utwór ma w sobie "to coś" i wnosi inną historię. Teksty są na bardzo wysokim poziomie, zresztą tak, jak produkcja. Zaskakujący goście na płycie dopełniają to dzieło w 100%. Uważam, że jest to najlepsza płyta The Weeknd jak do tej pory. Starboy naprawdę zasłużenie zdobywał szczyty list przez ostatnie miesiące. Gratuluję śiwetnego albumu!

The phenom of this record is that there are no deluxe version. And what we all know is taht the end on the deluxe releases are simply boring, especially when there are almost 20 of them. But not here! The Weeknd is amazing to the last! Every single song make up a different story and put the great zing over here. The lyrics and production are amazing. Terrific guests are making this record even better. As far as I am concerned this is the best The Weeknd's album up to date. The great Starboy does deserve all of the highest positions on charts. Congrats!
